The E.S.M. Philosophy

We keep our classes small
Our classes never exceed 10 students. This allows our instructors to teach each student on a one on one basis. No student is ever left out.

We address all student needs
No matter how advanced a student may be, we treat every student equally. Our instructors work closely with students to help them discover their own unique talents and encourage them to achieve all of their goals. We have an “open door “ policy and our staff is more than happy to help or give advice to students.

We use models
Most makeup and beauty schools have students practice makeup on each other. As convenient as this may be it limit’s the student’s experience of working on different facial shapes and skin tones. Students are encouraged to bring models to practice on during lab time. This allows the students to see how unique every application can be and making them stronger makeup artists that are well prepared to begin working within the makeup industry.

We believe in theory and practice.
Our classes consist of lecture, demonstration and lab time. Although makeup can not be taught using conventional text book style, there are some fundamentals that every makeup artist should understand. Most of our classes will have a one hour lecture with demonstration and three hours of lab time. We encourage all students to excel in both lecture and lab time.

The business side of the makeup industry
It is vital to a makeup artist’s career to have good business sense. E.S.M. offers students a business education that is included in “The Complete Makeup Artist Program”. Students are given advice on marketing, the tools needed to run a successful business, and the importance of looking and acting like a professional makeup artist.

Photographs
We encourage our students while attending E.S.M. to take pictures of all their work from the first application to graduation. This will help each student see their development and keep track of the progress they have made. In addition students will participate in a “Final Exam Photoshoot” that they will design themselves and will be shot by our in-house professional photographer. Each student will receive photos of their best work to include in their portfolios.

We don’t believe in mediocre
Each student will be given a series of tests during their time at E.S.M. Some will be written and some will be practical. We want to ensure that our students are ready to go out into the real world and pursue their careers as makeup artists. If for any reason we feel that a student needs more education during any part of their classroom attendance, we will work out a plan of action to better prepare the student at no cost to them. Most beauty schools are in a hurry to get students in and out of class. At E.S.M. we believe that our student’s success is our success.
